Shore Drive restaurants and waterfront dining in Chic's Beach Virginia Beach

Living in Chic's Beach: Restaurants, Things to Do, and What Daily Life Actually Looks Like

April 15, 20264 min read

Real estate decisions are not just about square footage and price per square foot. They are about what your daily life actually looks like once you are in. Chic's Beach has a lifestyle that is genuinely hard to replicate anywhere else in Hampton Roads. Here is an honest picture of what living here involves.

The Water Is the Center of Everything

The Chesapeake Bay beach at Chic's Beach stretches approximately two miles. The waves are calm. The water is safe for kids. There are no crowds, no resort infrastructure, and no tourists. Volleyball nets stay up on the sand year round, and pickup games happen regularly. Dolphins are spotted off the undeveloped beach stretches near Little Creek often enough that residents stop being surprised by them.

Beyond the bay beach itself, residents have water access at Lake Joyce, Lake Bradford, and Chub Lake within and adjacent to the neighborhood. The Lynnhaven River system to the south offers kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing through 118 acres of tidal marsh and maritime forest at Pleasure House Point Natural Area. Marina Shores and Long Shore Marina provide deep water slip access for boat owners, with world class Chesapeake Bay fishing near the Bridge-Tunnel minutes away by water.

First Landing State Park, Virginia's most visited state park, sits approximately five miles away with 2,888 acres of trails through bald cypress swamps, camping, kayak launches, and fishing piers on the bay.

The Golf Cart Culture Is Real

One of the things that surprises people new to Chic's Beach is the golf cart culture. On warm evenings, families cruise the neighborhood streets to the beach, to the brewery, and to the farmers market without ever getting in a car. It is one of the few Virginia Beach neighborhoods where this is genuinely part of daily life rather than an occasional novelty.

The Food Scene Is Legitimately Good

The Shore Drive dining corridor punches well above its weight. Here is what residents are actually going to:

Buoy 44 sits on the original Chic's Beach restaurant site and serves as the neighborhood's social anchor. Waterfront patio, fresh seafood, and a bay view. This is where the neighborhood gathers.

Hot Tuna Bar and Grill is one of the most well regarded restaurants on the entire Shore Drive stretch. Eastern Shore seafood, local produce, mahi mahi tacos, and hand muddled cocktails. The vibe is relaxed and the food quality is consistent.

Chick's Oyster Bar is a true local staple. Fresh oysters, laid back atmosphere, no tourists, no pretense.

Chic's Laundry is a newer addition in a converted space on Lookout Road offering elevated ingredient driven cooking that stands up against any restaurant in the city. Dinner only, worth planning around.

Green Parrot Grille has over 500 Google reviews and a 4.4 rating for a reason: it is affordable, unpretentious, and exactly the kind of place locals go on a Tuesday.

Commonwealth Brewery on the Shore Drive corridor offers live entertainment, community sports leagues, and a rotating tap list. Shorebreak Pizza and Taphouse rounds out the options for casual weeknights and watch parties.

1608 Crafthouse is a local favorite people say this restaurant serves delicious burgers, fried chicken and shrimp and grits. They highlight the good beer selection and the casual, cozy atmosphere. They also like the friendly and attentive service. This is one of our personal favorites!

The Saturday Farmers Market

Every Saturday morning from 9am to noon, the Shore Drive Farm Market runs at Lynnhaven Square Shopping Center. Local meats, fresh produce, specialty baked goods, Lynnhaven Coffee Company, and rotating artisan and seafood vendors. For new residents, this is one of the fastest ways to plug into the community. The whole neighborhood organizes around it.

The Honest Summary

Life in Chic's Beach is oriented around the water, the community, and a pace that belongs specifically to a place built over decades of people choosing to stay. It is not a resort. It is not a suburb. It is a real neighborhood with real character, and the lifestyle here is not available anywhere else in Hampton Roads at this price point.
